Children With Special Education Needs, Needs Protection-ZANEC

The Zambia National Education Coalition-ZANEC – has called for the protection of children with disability, more so Children with Special Education Needs.
ZANEC Executive Director, Grace Manyonga says it is ZANEC’s view that Children living with disability experience a lot of emotional challenges such as isolation, stigma, discrimination and abandonment rendering them without hope for the future.
Ms. Manyonga says harmful traditional practices and cultural beliefs further disadvantage them, making protection of these children a major concern.
She reminds all Zambians that children with disability and special education needs are African Children too.
She calls for programmes to support the education of these children with appropriate infrastructure, learning and teaching materials and specialized teachers.
This is contained in a statement to mark this year’s day of the African child which falls every year on the 16th of June.
This year’s theme is ‘Conflict and Crisis in Africa protecting all Children’s Rights”.
