The Lusaka Magistrates Court has dismissed the application by former Information Minister Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha to cite Ministry of Information Permanent Secretary Godfrey Malama and ZNBC Corporate Secretary Reuben Kajokoto for contempt of court.
This is in a matter in which Lieutenant General Shikapwasha, former Information Permanent Secretary Dr. Sam Phiri and Chanda Chimba the third have been charged with abuse of authority of office.
When the matter came up for commencement of defence, the trio, through their lawyer Charles Lisita made an application to have Mr Malama and Mr Kajokoto cited for contempt for allegedly commenting and publishing the subject matter before court.
However, Magistrate Obster Musukwa ruled that the alleged contempt was not made in the face of court and that the media is at liberty to publish any matter in court as long as it is factual.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Shikapwasha has denied directing the airing of Stand up for Zambia programe and that he did not commit government to pay for liabilities of the programme.
