Human Rights Commission Condemns Police Shooting

The Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned Friday’s shooting to death of a woman in Chawama Township by Police.
The Commission’s, Chief of Information, Mweelwa Muleya, notes with regret that lives have continued to be lost either at the hands of police officers or party cadres during the run up to 11th August 2016 elections.
Mr. Muleya says the commission welcomes the decision by Police that an inquiry will be instituted into the shooting adding that there is no justification for arbitrarily taking away a person’s life.
He further says Rights to Freedoms of Peaceful Assembly and Association are fundamental and indispensable in a democracy especially during election.
