The Supreme Court has reinstated Dr Nevers Mumba has the legitimate
leader of the embattled former ruling party, the MMD.
This follows a ruling by a panel of three Supreme Court Judges which
ordered for the fresh hearing by High Court of a matter where the Dr
Nevers Mumba-led MMD faction is challenging former Lunte Member of
Parliament and three others from holding themselves as members of the
MMD.
Judges Roydah Kaoma, Nigel Mutuna and Michael Musonda have sent back
the matter to the High Court and ordered for the fresh hearing of the
case.
Winnie Zaloumis who sued in her capacity as acting MMD National
Secretary had dragged Mr Mutati, Mwansa Mbulakulima, Raphael
Nakachinda and George Kangwa seeking an injunction to restrain them
from holding themselves as MMD members following their expulsion from
the party.
She says today’s judgement effectively reconfirms the status quo of
Dr.Nevers Mumba as President of the MMD with all the other legitimate
office holders.
Ms Zaloumis says Felix Mutati therefore maintains his expelled
status until the court makes another order.
She says Rafael Nakacinda also remains suspended from engaging in
any party activities.
MMD National Chairperson Winnie Zaloumis has since urged party
members to rally behind the candidature of UPND leader Hakainde
Hichilema.
