The constitutional court has adjourned to tomorrow the petition hearing in which the UPND is challenging the election of Edgar Lungu as president elect.
When the case came up for hearing constitutional court President, Hilda Chibomba adjourned the matter as the lawyers representing Edgar Lungu and his running mate Inonge Wina were not served with the petition.
The respondent’s legal team requested to be served with the said court process hence adjourning the case to Tuesday.
Hakainde Hichilema wants the court to declare President Lungu’s election null and void on account that he was not validly elected.
In another turn of events a Lusaka resident has petitioned the Constitutional court to block UPND President, Hakainde Hichilema and his vice Geoffrey Mwamba from participating in future elections on account of perpetrating violence.
William Mubanga a livestock seller says Mr. Hichilema and Mwamba should be disqualified on claims that they have been preaching violence and that UPND cadres are attacking opponents in their names.
Mr. Mubanga also wants a declaration that the violence being condoned by Mr. Hichilema and Mr. Mwamba amounts to crimes against humanity.
He says failure by the respondents to denounce or refrain their cadres from perpetrating the said violence is an abrogation of the rights on presidential candidates and their running mate.
