Referendum Flops

The referendum which went along side with the 2016 General elections has flopped after failing to reach the 50 percent threshold.
According to the results announced by Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ-Chairperson, Justice Essau Chulu, Seven Hundred and Fifty Three Thousand, Five Hundred and Forty-Nine people voted against the referendum while One Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Two, Five Hundred and Fifty Nine people voted yes.
The referendum needed to acquire Three Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Four votes for it to pass.
In the Referendum, voters were being asked whether to approve the proposed amendments to the bill of rights and article 79, which dictates the process of future amendment.
