Shoprite Workers Down Tools

The ‘more money in your pocket’ slogan dominated the Patriotic Front’s campaign pledges in the run-up to the 2011 general elections.
However, five years down the line, the fruition of this pledge has remained elusive to many workers across the country.
This came to light when Unionized Shoprite workers in Lusaka protested against the protracted negotiations for improved conditions of service.
The workers drawn from different outlets of the chain store gathered at its Manda hill outlet in Lusaka demanding an explanation from management.
They charge that in the last two years their salaries have remained unchanged.
And unionized workers at a Shoprite stores in Livingstone have also downed tools demanding a salary rise.
