UPND Petitions Election Outcome in Concourt

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has petitioned the constitutional court over the outcome of the 2016 general elections.
Mr. Hichilema and his vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba are seeking the court’s declaration that the election of President Edgar Lungu be declared null and void as he did not meet the 50 percent threshold as per requirement.
According to a petition filed in the constitutional court registry, Mr. Hichilema also wants the declaration that the election is invalid as the respondents who also include Inonge wina did not receive more than fifty percent of the valid vote cast.
Mr. Hichilema says due to the foregoing the declaration of the winner is null and void and must be set aside forthwith.
Through their lawyers who include Keith Mweemba and Gilbert Phiri among others the petition has cited a number of irregularities among them the lack of writing authenticated election results of G 12 forms and the tampering of results in the IT center at the results center
