Chongwe Water Treatment Plant Shut Down

The Chongwe water treatment plant has been shut because the Chongwe River has dried up.
Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Interim Managing Director, Manuel Mutale says measures have been put in place to start transporting water by road from Lusaka into Chongwe until the rainy season.
The utility company is working closely with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit to deal with the situation.
Mr. Mutale says the effects of global warming are real and that the company has already put in place measures to mitigate the situation in the long term by drilling some boreholes about 11 kilometers away from Chongwe town .
This is according to a statement issued to MUVI TV NEWS by Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Public Relations and Marketing Manager Topsy Sikalinda.
