Lawmaker Calls For End To Early Marriages

A lawmaker says early sexual activities and marriages among young people is a growing source of concern in Zambia and the sub-Sahara region.

Chawama Member of Parliament Lawrence Sichalwe says this trend must be addressed urging parents and guardians to protect their children from engaging in sexual activities to reduce sexually transmitted diseases and early marriages.

He has stressed that parents and guardians have a pivotal role to play as opposed to relaying on government’s efforts all the times.

Mr. Sichalwe was speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Chawama constituency development funds Chairperson, Peter Kayombo at the save the children concert.
