Chief Shakumbila Residents Sue Mining Company

About 200 residents of Chief Shakumbila in central province have sued a mining company for failing to transmit the trust fund contributions to the senior chief.
According to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka high court by the community, it was agreed that the total money due to each beneficiary who was displaced, the pay master Jamba Machila was to retain 10 percent for onward transmission to senior chief Shakumbila as trust fund royalty contributions.
But Mr. Machila an agent of the mining company has squandered the money which was supposed to be transmitted to the chief.
The residents says despite Mr. Machila apologizing and promising to refund the money he has neglected to do so with impunity as he has now runaway.
Over 440 thousand is being claimed as money contributed by the beneficiaries as Trust Fund contribution.
