Nigeria has kicked off the 2018 World Cup qualifiers with a 2-1 victory against Zambia.
The Group B game played at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium saw the Gernot Rohr coached Super Eagles score two goals in the first half through Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi in the 32nd minute and Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho in the 42ndminute.
Zambia seemed to have waken from slumber in the second half in which South Africa based Collins Mbesuma scored the face saver in the 70th minute.
The game which saw the Zambian defence go to sleep especially in the first half, was also watched by President Edgar Lungu.
The win has seen Nigeria go top of the group viewed as one of the toughest in World Cup qualifying series.
Two other team in group B, Algeria and Cameroon lock horns later tonight.
Five group winners will qualify for Russia 2018 from Africa.
