Luapula Chiefs Palaces Construction Stalls

The construction of three Chiefs palaces in Luapula Province which were started in 2014 following the release of One Million Two Hundred Kwacha by the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs have stalled at wall plate level due to lack of funds.
Luapula Provincial Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Officer Noah Mwisa disclosed this during the Senior Management meeting in Mansa.
He said the three Palaces under construction in the Province are for Senior Chief Mununga of the Shila people in Chienge, Chieftainess Kanyembo of the Lunda people in Nchelenge and Chief Munkanta of the Chishinga people in Kawambwa.
Mr. Mwisa further disclosed that Senior Chief Mwewa of the Ngumbo people in Samfya, Senior Chief Kalasamukoso of the Kabende people of Samfya, Chief Kalasalukangaba and Chief Mabumba of the Ushi people of Mansa are building their own places from personal funds.
And Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Buleti Nsemukila called for sustainable ways of supporting the welfare of traditional leaders by their subjects as the case was in the past.
He wondered why currently all traditional leaders were looking to Government for Palace construction and economic welfare when in the past it was the responsibility of their subjects to look after them.
