Researchers Challenged To Sustain Cassava Production

Government has challenged researchers and farmers to maintain and sustain the production level of cassava in light of the increasing demand for the crop and its products.
Agriculture Permanent Secretary, Julius Shawa says government will provide the necessary support for the promotion of the cassava sub sector.
Mr Shawa notes that the development of the cassava strategic paper seeks to promote cassava utilisation by commercializing the crop in East and Southern Africa countries.
He called on government and cooperating partners to source and secure funds for investing in research and development activities for the sustained development of the cassava sub sector.
In a speech read on his behalf by Zambia Agriculture Research Institute Director Moses Mwale, Mr Shawa says the interactions from the various stakeholders will help evaluate the challenges and disease threats in the cassava industry and map the way forward for the growth of the industry.
He was speaking during the annual stakeholders meeting for the cassava diagnostics project in Lusaka.
