On Wednesday, ugly scenes characterized Luanshya when police officers fired teargass canister and brutalized the UPND supporters who went to offer solidarity to Party President Hakainde Hichilema and his Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba.
This was when the duo reported at Luanshya Central Police Station where they had been summoned for alleged Seditious practices and unlawful assembly when they traveled to Kitwe to visit party officials who are detained at Kamfinsa Prisons.
The two were arrested after a more than four hours interrogation.
Sixty-six UPND cadres were also arrested and charged for riotous behavior.
Four more UPND cadres have been arrested today bringing the total to seventy-one.
Meanwhile,
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and Vice President Geoffrey Mwamba have been granted 25 thousand kwacha cash bail each after the appeared in the Luanshya magistrate court.
The duo is charged with three counts of seditious practice and unlawful assembly.
They have separate seditious practice charges while they are jointly charged on the unlawful assembly count.
Resident Magistrate John Mbuzi granted the two bail.
