Lusaka Dynamos’ hopes of surviving relegation have been dealt a major blow after losing to defending champions Zesco United in a FAZ Super League week 30 fixture.
Dynamos took an early lead through Luka Chamanga but Zesco’s Mwape Mwela levelled the lead going into half time.
United, who were playing at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, struggled to break through the Dynamos defense showing that they missed the services of Kenyan striker Jesse Were.
Were has been influential in Zesco’s fight to retain the title and win it for the third consecutive time.
Deep in the second half, Dynamos missed a number of chances and were punished by striker Idris Mbombo, who finnished coolly inside the 18 yard box.
The loss means Dynamos remain in the relegation zone with 29 points, and coach Elijah Chikwanda believes his side can escape the drop.
His opposite number George Lwandamina, admits it will take extraordinary performances to catch up with Zanaco, who continued with their winning ways by beating Red Arrows 2-1.
