Adjustment In Paye Threshold Not Matching With High Cost Of Living-ZUFIAW

A financial trade union has observed that most Zambian workers will have reduced appetite for spending due to certain taxes increased in the 2017 national budget.
The Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers-ZUFIAW says the adjustment in the Pay As You Earn threshold from three thousand Kwacha to three thousand three hundred kwacha does not meet well with the high cost of living.ZUFIAW President Ackim Mweemba says the economy does not stand to grow because workers cannot spend more as the tax base has not been broadened.Mr. Mweemba has urged Finance Minister Felix Mutati to devise ways in which the informal sector can be included to broaden the tax base.
