United States has gone to the polls with Polling stations opening along the US east coast, marking the beginning of the end of a long and often bitter campaign.
Polling stations across nine states on the east coast opened at 6:00 am local time.
Voters in Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Vermont and Virginia got first crack at electing a new president.
Polling stations will continue to open across the United States all the way westward to Hawaii.
The latest polls have Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton slightly ahead of Republican Donald Trump.
However, the polls anticipate a tight race in vote-rich states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania.
