GOVT Urged To Consult When Revising Mining Legislation

The Southern Africa Resource Watch has noted with sadness Zambian government’s unwillingness to involve the local people in the revision of mining legislation.
Watch country coordinator Edward Lange says the local people should be consulted in order for them not to feel left out in mining developments happening across the country.
Mr Lange has since submitted that the 2015 Mining and Minerals Development Act and the 1995 Land Act should be harmonised to take into consideration the welfare of local people.
He says this will allow for an effective relationship between the welfare of the people and the incoming mining investment.
