Disability Activists Bemoan High Levels Of Discrimination

Disability activists have called for meaningful implementation of policies that will curb discrimination of people in need of special care. One of the renowned activists Waliuya Wamundila has bemoaned lack of political commitment to advocate for inclusive education of persons with disabilities.
Wamundila says society must desist from negative approach towards the disabled because this hampers the right for a child to mature into a productive adult who can equally perform some duties just like an able-bodied individual.
A representative from the Ministry of General Education Dr. Mwenya Mwamba has challenged the teaching fraternity to embrace people with disabilities and avoid running into a future that has marginalized citizens.
The duo made the remarks at a one day Symposium on Inclusive Education in Zambia held in Livingstone whose theme was ‘Quality Inclusive Education for Persons with Disabilities Leaving no One Behind.’
