Government Fails To Release Kitwe Water Pollution Report

The Green Party says failure by Government to release findings on the water pollution incidence two weeks in Kitwe and Kalulushi is a clear indication that Government lacks capacity to guarantee quality water in the country.
Party President, Peter Sinkamba adds that this also reveals not only the vulnerability of the masses to toxic waste exposure through surface and underground water systems but also a clear indication Government lacks capacity to timely monitor toxic wastewater exposure.
He wonders if government has a serious challenge to pinpoint the source of pollution affecting surface water systems, what more for underground water systems?
About two weeks ago Nkana Water and Sewerage Company cut-off domestic water supply to Kitwe and Kalulushi allegedly due to sulphate contamination of the water in the Kafue River.
It remains unknown which of the seven mining companies discharged the wastewater in the Kafue River.
This is despite Government having dispatched a team of inspectors from ZEMA and Water Resources Management Authority to investigate the incidence whose findings would have been released last week on Monday.
