Kapiri’s Kampumba Manganese Mine in Workers’ Rights Abuse

Kapiri Mposhi UPND Member of Parliament, Stanley Kakubo has expressed sadness at the abuse of workers at the Chinese owned Kampumba Manganese open-pit mine.
After touring the mine, the MP also expressed concern at the environmental degradation being caused by the mining firm.
It also came to light that all of the 200 workers at the Chinese owned mining company have been working as casual workers for more than eight years without contracts.
Residents around the area have also expressed regret at government’s decision to allow the Chinese owned company to set-up a mining company which does not even benefit the locals.
