The anti-corruption Commission-ACC-has disclosed that the total value of recovered assets in the last six years from 2011 to 2016 is more than 67 Million Kwacha, while the value of seized properties during the same period is more than 2 Million Kwacha.
ACC Public Relations Manager, Timothy Moono says last year the commission seized and recovered property and cash totaling more than 69 Million Kwacha linked to acts of corruption.
He says last year the Commission instituted investigations into 10 cases arising from the 2014 Auditor-General’s Report with regard to financial irregularities and suspected corruption.
Mr. Moono says from these investigations, a total amount of 700 Thousand Kwacha has since been recovered.
He says among the ten cases being investigated involves the Ministry of Mines and Energy in which Officials procured four LaserJet printers at 38 Thousand Four Hundred Kwacha when earlier the same type of printers had been acquired 5 Thousand Kwacha each.
Other case involves a former High Commissioner to Kenya who is alleged to have used public funds for payment for transportation of personal goods amounting to more than One Hundred Thousand Kwacha.
And the other case being investigated is the irregular drawing of double salaries by over 200 former Ministry of Health workers who were employed into the Ministry of Defence.
And Mr. Moono says investigations into alleged corruption against Former Minister of Information and Broadcasting Hon. Dr. Chishimba Kambwili are on- going and have reached an advanced stage.
He also says investigations into alleged misappropriation of funds at Football Association of Zambia involving the FAZ President Andrew Kamanga are still on- going and progressing well.
Mr. Moono furthers says investigations into allegations of Abuse of Authority Office at National Savings and Credit Bank against the Managing Director Cephas Chabu have been concluded and forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for possible consent to prosecute.
He also confirmed that investigations have been instituted into alleged corruption in to the Zambia- Malawi maize deal.
Mr. Moono says the Commission has begun collaboration with the Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau over the matter.
