The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission – CEEC has received a total number of 429 applications following the Call for Applications for business loans in the Cassava Value Chain.
Lusaka Province received 138 applications, while Copperbelt province received 96 applications.
Solwezi District in Northwestern Province received 106 applications, while Kasama Districts of Northern Province received 86 applications.
The commission will provide business loans amounting to Eight Million Kwacha to targeted citizens and companies in the cassava value chain.
The Cassava Commercialization Initiative being implemented by CEEC is being facilitated through financing from the African Development Bank under the Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Project -Supporting Women and Youth.
The project will address the key pre-requisites for unlocking the full value addition potential of cassava as a commercial crop, while supporting women and youth as stakeholders along the value chain.
Applications were being accepted for projects in cassava commercialization for investments that include cassava flour, cassava chips, confectionery, alcohol, stock feed and glue.
This is according to a statement made available to Muvi TV news by CEEC Head of Communications and Public relations Glenda Masebe.
