High Maternal Mortality Rate Attributed To Inadequate Health Centers

The high prevalence of maternal mortality cases especially in rural areas has been attributed to inadequate health centers and lack of access to qualified personnel.
Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Sylvia Chalikosa, says the situations is alarming.
Ms. Chalikosa says there is need for government and other stakeholders to collaborate in fighting the trend which has seen many lives being lost especially women aged between 15 to 35 years old.
And United Nations Fund for Population Agency-UNFPA Country Representative Mary Otieno, says it is possible to end the obstetric fistula that has claimed many lives of women.
The duo was speaking at the commemoration of safe motherhood day in Solwezi under the theme ‘Universal access to safe reproductive health services, antenatal within first three months of pregnancy can save lives.’
