UPND Wants Presidential Petition Hearing Stayed Pending Determination Of Appeal

The UPND has asked Lusaka High Court Judge Mwila Chitabo to stay the Presidential Election Petition hearing pending the determination of an appeal.
Through their lawyers, UPND President and his Vice Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba have appealed to the Supreme Court against the decision by Judge Chitabo to refuse to recuse himself from handling the petition.
But Mr Hichilema has appealed to the Supreme Court and subsequently asking the court to stay the proceedings if the appeal is not to be rendered academic.
Mr Hichilema had asked the judge to transfer the case of the right to be heard to another judge due to perceived bias and conflict of interest.
But Justice Chitabo refused to recuse himself saying the allegations by the UPND were unfounded.
