Malawian Religious Body Recommends Chaponda’s Arrest Over Maize Gate Scandal

The Malawian Public Affairs Committee-PAC a quasi-religious body and governance watchdog, has recommended the arrest of sacked former Minister of Agriculture, George Chaponda over the Zambia-Malawi maize gate scandal.
The body resolved during the conference that Dr. Chaponda whose conduct with private company Transglobe was suspicious, should be charged within 30 days.
Delegates to the conference adopted the resolution and recommended that Dr. Chaponda should be arrested and undergo the due process of the law.
The body also wants all cash gate matters to be pursued expeditiously.
Dr. Chaponda was early this year fired after being named in the scandal by the two commissions of inquiry, one by President Peter Mutharika and another by Parliament which also named Zambia’s Agriculture Minister Dora Siliya.
