MUZ Urges Govt To Ban Export Of Mineral Concentrates

Mine Workers Union of Zambia-MUZ has urged government to ban the export of concentrates and anodes if the country is to get value for its minerals.
MUZ General Secretary Joseph Chewe says value addition can only be done if mines are encouraged to invest in smelters instead of allowing the taking out unprocessed minerals.
He says mushrooming of small-scale mines eluding taxes also remains a source of concern which the ministry should take keen interest in investigating.
Mr. Chewe said this at the Interactive stakeholders meeting in Solwezi in partnership with Zambia Revenue Authority that is working in enacting a monitoring system of how much the mines are producing.
