Former Tourism and Arts minister Sylvia Masebo has been acquitted on allegations of abuse of authority of office.
In her judgement Magistrate IreenWishimanga says Masebo did not cancel the tender but directed the Zambia Wildlife Authority to cancel and nullify the tender and publication of successful bidders following the irregularities that marred the process.
Magistrate Wishimanga says the prosecution failed to bring witnesses to testify on how Masebo benefited from the action to direct ZAWA to cancel the tender.
Magistrate Wishimanga says Masebo did not abuse the authority of her office by issuing a press statement directing ZAWA to cancel the tender.
Allegations were that Masebo abused the authority of her office by cancelling the tender for hunting concessions without following the laid down procedure, an act which was prejudicial to the interest of the Zambian government.
