Saint Eugene Student Pleads Not Guilty To Defaming Pres. Lungu

A DMI Saint Eugene University Student has pleaded not guilty to a charge of defamation of the President.
Edward Roy Makayi has denied the charges before Lusaka magistrate Humphrey Chitalu.
Magistrate Chitalu has since granted Makayi cash bail in the sum of Two Thousand Kwacha with two working sureties bound at Five Thousand Kwacha in their own recognizance.
Makayi has been slapped with three counts of defamation of the President and one count of use of insulting language.
He is alleged to have defamed President Lungu through a Facebook posting where he called him a Satanic Christian dictator and subsequently asked him to release UPND President Hakainde Hichilema from prison.
Makayi is also alleged to have insulted Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo.
According to the state the words have brought the name of the president into contempt.
