Ex-Kabwe Council Director Jailed Two Years

Former Kabwe Municipal Council Director of Engineering, Cosmas Mpundu has been jailed two years for corruption.
Mr. Mpundu will serve one with hard labour, while the other one year is a suspended sentence.
Kabwe Magistrate Chimuka Mutafela says he exercised lenience on Mr. Mpundu because he could have acted ignorantly when he committed the crime as he was only acting as Town Clerk.
Mr. Mpundu was facing a charge of abuse of authority after he facilitated the engagement of William Mhango to survey land on behalf of the Council without following public procurement procedures.
The incident happened in 2010.
Mr. Mpundu However says he will appeal against the sentence.
