Importation Of Public Service Vehicles Not Banned-Mushimba

Transport Minister Brian Mushimba has allayed fears that government intends to ban the importation of public service vehicles that do not have seatbelt fittings.

Mr. Mushimba says government only intends to phase out panel vans which cannot be fitted with seat belts.

He says the vehicles will be replaced with standard safety provisions.

Mr. Mushimba also says it has been a challenge to enforce the Statutory Instrument Number 79 on introducing seat belts on all passenger vehicles because they do not have seat belt fittings.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mushimba has encouraged companies to consider using train transport in order to decongest the road and take advantage of the revised railway sector.
