National Democratic Congress – NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili’s young brother Mutale Kambwili has accused government of trying to assassinate his brother.
Speaking when he visited his brother who is admitted at a private hospital, Kambwili says the family has rejected government’s proposed move to fly him to South Africa for treatment.
Mr. Mutale Kambwili adds that there’s no way government can suddenly become sympathetic.
Dr. Kambwili has been in hospital for two days.
The PF Member of Parliament and also a former cabinet minister is facing charges of being in possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime and obtaining pecuniary advantage.
Chief Government Spokesperson Dora Siliya says it is regrettable that police had to arrest Dr. Chishimba Kambwili in his sick condition.
And Ms. Siliya has indicated that Dr. Kambwili has not been evacuated to South Africa for treatment, as the family has refused government’s offer to do so.
Ms. Siliya is also concerned that Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba, issued a statement early this morning about the evacuation of Dr. Kambwili, before the position was clear.
She told journalists at a media briefing in Lusaka, that there is no point of circulating such information to the public, adding that government has a channel of communication.
And Ms. Siliya has advised that there is no need for Dr. Kambwili’s family and his supporters to be suspicious about government’s offer to have him evacuated.
