Lawyer Questions The Speaker Over Chilanga Parliamentary Seat

A Lusaka based lawyer has questioned the decision by the speaker of the national assembly, Patrick Matibini to declare the Chilanga Parliamentary Seat vacant following the conviction of area member of Parliament Keith Mukata.
Nicholas Chanda of Nicholas Chanda associates says Mukata’s appeal against his sentencing and conviction should operate as a stay of the sentence, hence his parliamentary seat should not be declared vacant until the appeal is heard.
Mukata was on February 28th 2018 sentenced to death by hanging for murdering his company security guard.
