Tight security surrounds tribunal judge LovemoreChikopa whose offices are at the new wing of Government complex in Lusaka. Judge Chikopa who held a meeting with lawyers representing suspended judges today could not be filmed as MUVI TV journalist Bruce Mwale was barred by armed police officers.

As he was moving from his office to the proposed tribunal hall the security conscious Judge Chikopa stood at the exit door when he noticed MUVI TV journalists at the reception.

Those that were part of the meeting include attorney general Mumba Malila, lawyers Milner Katolo, Erick Silwamba, Lubinda Linyama and Sakwiba Sikota.

And journalists wishing to cover the tribunal are being subjected to serious scrutiny as they required to file in three forms, submitting three passport photos, three letters from their employers and photocopies of NRCs

This comes following the Supreme Court’s over turning of the high court decision to stay the tribunal’s proceedings.

The process of accrediting media personnel to cover the proceedings of the tribunal is being coordinated by the Zambia National Information Services-ZANIS.

And the Judiciary and Allied Workers Union of Zambia says Thursday’s Supreme Court outcome renders judicial complaints authority useless.

The Supreme Court has ruled against the Lusaka High Court ruling that gave the suspended senior judges leave to seek judicial review of President Michael Sata to investigate the three judges.

The Supreme Court has noted that the Judge Chikopa Tribunal investigating Supreme Court judge, Phillip Musonda, two High Court judges Nigel Mutuna and Charles Kajimanga can proceed amid constitutional issues.

The Supreme Court bench of seven senior judges was split as four of the judges ruled against the Lusaka High Court earlier ruling in which the suspended judges were seeking judicial review while three others supported the lower court.

Judge Chibesakunda, however, supports President Michael Sata’s action to suspend the three judges saying the President could have received credible information of alleged misconduct.

This is in a case in which Supreme Court judge, Phillip Musonda, two High Court judges Nigel Mutuna and Charles Kajimanga have dragged the Attorney General to Court asking it to quash President Sata’s decision to constitute a tribunal to conduct investigations of their alleged misbehaviour or incompetence.

This is a judgment which took four hours.

Chitalu Musonda an electrician is alleged to have killed his wife Peggy Sakala from whom he grabbed a six months old baby.

Delivering judgment Lusaka high court judge Florence Lengalenga said Musonda should be hanged by the neck until pronounced dead.
