The Football Association of Zambia-FAZ- says it has not received official confirmation from world Football governing body,FIFA, that Sudan has been stripped three points for using an ineligible player against the Chipolopolo Boys.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that FIFA has awarded Zambia three points against Sudan, who fielded an ineligible player in a June 2 World Cup qualifier.
On Thursday, the FIFA competitions department forwarded this matter to the FIFA Disciplinary committee, and FAZ communications manager Erick Mwanza says the association still awaits official confirmation.
Al Hilal defender Saif Ali was fielded in the game that the hosts won 2-nil in which the player also scored the home side’s second goal in the 72nd minute.
Ali was suspended after a second bookable offence on February 3 in their last meeting against Zambia in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal played in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.
Zambia are currently third in Group D on three points, level with second-placed Ghana but a point behind early leaders Sudan.
Minions Lesotho are locked bottom of the standings on a point after a scoreless draw with Sudan at home on June 10.
