Children from all walks of life are set to discuss issues affecting them in the draft constitution.
This follows Zambia’s commemoration of International Day of the African Child which falls on June 16th.
Media Network on Child Rights and Development Projects Manager Prisca Nyoni has told MUVI TV News in Lusaka that Spokesperson of the Technical Committee on the Draft Constitution, Simon Kabanda will discuss with the children regarding their constitutional rights on Sunday.
This year’s theme will be commemorated under the theme “Disability Our Duty to Promote, Protect and fulfill them”.
In 1976, thousands of black school children took to the streets of Soweto, South Africa.
In a march more than half a mile long, they protested the inferior quality of their education and demanded their right to be taught in their own language. Hundreds of young boys and girls were shot down by security forces. In the two weeks of protest that followed, more than a hundred people were killed and more than a thousand were injured.
