Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes -SACCORD-has challenged government to clearly state its position over the position of Chief Justice in the country.

This follows the recent appointment of Supreme Court Judge, Lombe Chibesakunda to act as Chief Justice.

SACCORD Spokesperson Obby Chibuluma wonders why government has only appointed Judge Chibesakunda and her deputy, Supreme Court Judge Florence Mumba, in an acting capacity.

Early this month Chief Justice Ernest Sakala went on leave pending the expiry of his contract later this year.

In his place, President Sata appointed Supreme Court judge Lombe Chibesakunda to act as Chief Justice.

Acting Deputy Chief Justice Dennis Chirwa also proceeded on leave pending retirement.

To act as Deputy Chief Justice, President Sata appointed Supreme Court Judge Florence Mumba.
