The Lusaka high court has thrown out the deregistration of Zambia’s former ruling party, the Movement for Multiparty Democracy-MMD- which was effected by the registrar of societies.
Lusaka High Court Judge in Charge, Jane Kabuka, says the action by the registrar of societies, Clement Andeleki, to deregister the party on March 14th this year was excessive adding that no sensible person could have resorted to that.
She says there are other ways the registrar could have recovered unpaid statutory obligations rather than deregistering the biggest opposition political party in the country.
But in his reaction to the ruling Mr. Andeleki maintains that his action was not excessive.
He however says the judgment is fair in the public interest.
Meanwhile MMD National Secretary, Major Richard Kachingwe, says the deregistration was malicious claiming that it was the desire of the ruling Patriotic Front-PF- to eliminate the MMD.
The MMD was deregistered by the Registrar of Societies on March 14th, 2012 for non payment of 390 million Kwacha in renewal fees since 1991.

One of the MMD members managed to bury billions in his farm house, why cant the all MMD just put that much together so that they pay up debts. no offense, just a thought
