Zambia Federation of Employers Maintains Its Condemnation Of The Announced Minimum Wage

By Editor - Fri Jul 13, 10:16 am

The Zambia Federation of  Employers-ZFE-says the upward adjustment of about 67 percent to the minimum wage is unrealistic and was done without consultations.
ZFE Executive Director, Harrington Chibanda says many employers are contemplating laying off some workers in order to meet the threshold announced by government.
He says the number of unemployed people will rise because most employers have already indicated that it is beyond their capacity.
Mr. Chibanda was speaking on MUVI TV’s sunrise breakfast show this morning.
He adds that it is unfortunate that Labour Minister, Fackson Shamenda went ahead to revise the minimum wage when it was agreed during the last tripartite labour consultative council that a technical committee be constituted to discuss the matter.
