Rebased Kwacha Notes Printing to Commence Next Week

The Bank of Zambia-BoZ- has revealed that the long awaited rebasing and eventual printing of new Kwacha notes and coins starts next week.

Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor for Operations, Dr. Bwalya Ng’andu said a German company will print the new Kwacha notes. Dr. Ng’andu adds that a South African firm will make the new coins. He said the new local currency is expected to be in circulation by December 2012.

Early this year, Government announced the rebasing of the Kwacha by phasing out three zeros from the current Kwacha notes and re-introduction of coins.
