Human rights activist, Christopher Shalwabala, says the brutal killing of Ruth Mbandu is an indication that killers deserve nothing less than a death penalty.

Mr. Shalwabala says the right to life is universal and anyone taking life deserves the same.

He says his recent submission to the technical committee on drafting the Zambian constitution is to uphold the death penalty and hopes this is a view shared by many citizens.

But Transformation Research Centre Director, Franklin Meembe calls for a clause that will make capital offenders jailed to life imprisonment and not death penalty.

President Michael Sata late last year constituted a constitution making committee and Zambians have up to 31st July to make their contribution to the country’s constitution making process.
