The Roads Development Agency-RDA- has been directed to award contracts to Zambian owned companies.

The move has been necessitated in line with the Citizens Economic Empowerment Act number nine of 2006.

The directive is aimed at empowering local contractors which in turn will create more jobs.

The directive stipulates that a minimum of 20 percent of sub-contracting be awarded to Zambian owned companies with ownership of 51 percent interest in the shareholding structure.

Former Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Minister Yamfwa Mukanga says government will however not entertain any shoddy works from local contractors.
