Utushimi is a Bemba word which means stories; the shows main focus is folk tales with a moral which are told by Betty Nguluwe who is also the writer of the stories and the producer of show.
kwekwe’s voice is done by Bessie Mulenga who is a multi-talented actor, singer and producer .
BACKGROUND
Utushimi was created by Catherin Nyirenda she came up with the idea in an effort to help save our culture of storytelling for the coming generations with the help from our current productions director Mr. Angel Phiri, kwekwe was born.
Utushimi centers on the life of a five years old puppet bird called kwekwe or the yellow mellow fella as he prefers to be called and his aunty called Aunty Betty. Who always have great adventure in the stories that are told on the show.
Kwekwe thinks he knows everything as a result he argues with Aunty Betty all the time.
But he does it sweetly so one finds it hard to get upset with him you will find that most of the time you want to hang and reassure this silly dear boy.
Utushim that initially started with picture illustrations has now improved with cartoons.
Kwekwe was entered in the prix Jeunes international festival earlier this year. This festival comes every after two years and it’s held in Germany. Though UTUSHIMI didn’t make it to the finales it was put in the brief case and it will be one of the films that will travel around the world. This makes us very proud as a TV station our product has now become international and our culture will be known by others because the main focus of our show is to up hold culture.
