Former Northern PS Simfukwe, in Court for Abuse of Authority of Office

Former Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Mwalimu Simfukwe has appeared in the Kasama Magistrate Court and pleaded not guilty to one count of abuse of Authority of Office Case.

Simfukwe, 47 who is also MMD’s former Member of Parliament for Mbala Central is jointly charged with Provincial Administration Senior Procurement Officer, Elias Simukonde, 41, of Kasama Girls High School Township.

Particulars of the case are that between May 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011 in Kasama, Simfukwe authorized a contract of delivery and installation of traffic lights, which led to the Government incurring a loss of about one hundred and twenty million kwacha, an arbitrary act prejudicial to the interests of the country.

Trial commences on 16 October 2012.
