An assistant accountant at the Ministry of Health has testified that he was threatened with an arrest if he did not implicate his superiors in theft charges. Gift Kamwale testified that Anti Corruption Commission-ACC- officers wanted him to connect Henry Kapoko, Nobert Peleti and other officials in allegations of theft.

Mr. Kamwale said the officers were upset with him when he told them the truth that none of his bosses got money from him. He said as cashier he would cash in and later hand over the money to ministry of health program officers.

This is in a case in which Kapoko and ten others are jointly charged with theft and money laundering involving over six billion kwacha.

The matter is under trial within trial arising from an application by the state to admit into evidence, a statement purported to have been recorded from one of the suspect,s Essau Banda.

The defense objected to the application claiming the statement was not recorded in a favorable environment as it was marred with harassment and inducement.
