Old habits die hard, this can be said to be true in the case of Former MMD Lusaka Province Chairperson William Banda’s violent nature. His appetite for violence resurfaced this afternoon when Mr. Banda now UPND member slipped from police hands at Woodlands police station and violently charged and wrestled with MUVI Television cameraperson, Lloyd Kapusa.
This happened when Mr. Kapusa was filming Mr. Banda at the police station where he had been arrested. It took police officers and some journalists to separate the duo.
Embattled Mr. Banda carries a tag of having orchestrated some instances of violent attacks against PF cadres in the run up to last year’s general elections.
He was one time leader of the notorious and infamous vigilante system introduced during Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s one party state under the UNIP government.
Meanwhile, Mr. Banda has been arrested on two counts of being in possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
Government Joint Investigative Team Acting Public Relations Officer, Christopher Chibanku says in the first count Mr. Banda has been arrested in connection with five motor vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In the second count Mr. Banda was found in possession of cash money amounting to One Hundred Million Eight Hundred Thousand Kwacha equally suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Mr. Banda has however, been released on bond.
