Sunderland Pondering Move on Sunzu

Sunderland is weighing up a move for Zambian international defender Stoppila Sunzu.
Sunzu’s transfer status is a matter of debate, with the player claiming he is out of contract, while his most recent club, Congolese side TP Mazembe, claims he is still under contract with them until 2015.
However, he was at the Stadium on Saturday to watch Sunderland’s game against Arsenal and prior to that, he had been training with Reading following Zambia’s elimination from the 2013 African Cup of Nations at the group stage last month.
Reading have been long-time admirers of Sunzu, and only his inability to secure a work permit prevented him moving to the Madejski Stadium in 2007 after a successful trial.
According to the Chronicle Live, Sunderland are monitoring Sunzu’s situation, but the player will not move anywhere until the uncertainty over his contract situation is resolved.
Sunzu rose to prominence last year when he scored the decisive spot-kick as Zambia beat the Ivory Coast in a penalty shoot-out in the final of the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
He was also voted as the third best player based in Africa by CAF for 2012.
