UN deputy director and head of Africa millennium campaign Charles Abugre has told MUVI TV in an interview that the UN is of the view that Zambia can attain the much talked about 2015 millennium development goals which other stakeholders have ruled out.
Mr. Abugre has noted that Zambia’s mineral wealth and other natural resources is adequate for the government to source financing for investment in to poverty.
And Mr. Abugre has called on the local leadership to show not only political will but provide tangible evidence towards ending poverty in Zambia.
He says it is unfortunate that African leadership has failed to utilize their positions in cementing the poverty reduction strides earlier recorded when the millennium campaign commenced.

And the United Nations has Challenged the Zambian government to ensure that economic growth translates with job creation.
UN millennium campaign policy advisor for Africa Thomas Deve has told Muvi television in an interview that much as the UN system is pleased with Zambia’s performance economically after the global recession; the country has unfortunately failed to tally the economic growth with job creation.
And Mr. Deve says the UN system has decided to shift the stand up campaign against poverty for 2010 to September from October owing to the review of the MDG progression ahead of the 2015 deadline.
