Category: Community
10/03/2010
The Southern African Center for Constructive Resolution of Disputes-SACCORD) has obtained an injunction from the Supreme Court restraining the state to deregister the civil society organization.
According to a recent judgment passed on February 25th this year, the Lusaka High court stayed the execution of the judgment delivered pending determination of the appeal by the Supreme Court.
Speaking during a news conference in Lusaka today, SACCORD Executive Director Lee Habasonda has challenged the move by then Minister of Home Affairs, Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha to deregister the organization.
Mr. Habasonda argues that SACCORD was not given a hearing.
Section 13 sub section one of the Societies’ act gives the minister of home affairs sweeping powers to ban organizations.
